Komische Oper Tango Festival 2019

March 1 - March 3

The tango combines passion and melancholy, pride and yearning, and means one thing above all else: unbounded sensuality! Following the successful Tango Festival of the 2014/15 season, tango will once again conquer the stage, auditorium and foyer of the Komische Oper Berlin for the space of a weekend: for 48 sensual hours, there will be musical performances, listening, and of course dancing deep into the night.

Berlin is today seen as the Buenos Aires of Europe. In virtually no other European city is the tango scene as vibrant as it is here. Together with the scene’s players, tango schools and organisers, we will celebrate the diversity of this unique style of music and dance. The many different facets of tango will be explored and exuberantly celebrated – from a tango concert with Gidon Kremer and his famous Kremerata Baltica, and two concert-based performances of Astor Piazzolla’s music to AMidsummer Night’s Dream, through to chamber concerts and night-time concerts; from dance workshops for children and adults, through to dance cafés and night-time milonga dances; and from classic tango argentino through to tango nuevo.
