Tango Cherries – about tango cherries, and crazy chicken preparations

Dear friends, I have been thinking quite a while and I will write about my tango Tango Marathon Traveler’s life under the “Tango Cherries” title. I think you get the “cherry picking” idea behind instantly. It’s what I do when I go to dance – I wisely choose whom to dance with, and my sweetest cherries are the dancers I really wanna dance with. Also that’s what I am doing when choosing events. And last but not least it’s what you do, dear reader, you choose some of the fruits I present, you choose some of my texts to read …. May the cherries be sweet and tasty!

The title gives in my understanding also the pure subjectiveness of my writing. I will not establish a tango marathon review system, with, let’s say, one to five “high heels” according to the quality of an event … I like the idea with the high heels, but that’s another discussion πŸ™‚

I will only write about my life around the tango marathons, I will not give a systematic overview, nor a standardized rating. I will name only people when I talk positively about them, and my critics or negative comments will always be de-personalized. So if anybody wants more precise details of a certain topic, or a feedback to any event including critical points, you need to ask me personally.

So: after cancellation of Brussels festival, which was a pity but necessary, I felt fresh and motivated for a marathon I haven’t been before in a city I haven’t been before, too. But first I almost failed to check in.

Since my former life was a life as a responsible for IT I feel I am very well prepared to use whatever website and app for my daily life. But Norwegian airlines gave me a kind of mystery. I simply wanted to check in online. Usually I go to the website of any airline, or to the app of the airline, and look for a quick check-in button. If there is no button usually I find it under the “flights” menu. If not there you can search for any kind of “before flight” or “services” menu.

Not with Norwegian … Slightly in doubt I went through my emails searching the booking confirmation, because sometimes there is a link. No, there was not. Some airlines also send you an email or text when check-in opens, not this airline. I was wondering how I could check-in and finally searched the FAQ section. Yes, different check-in options. And even online check-in, yeah. Solution: you need to go to “my bookings” (for that you need to log-in with your booking reference), and then you find a tiny link. Puh!

The flight itself was nice, wonderful views over water and islands after leaving Hamburg, but really chilly here after arrival. My phone refused (and still does) to log in to any mobile network here, so I am offline most of the time. Oslo itself is as nice as a city can be with lots of rain today, heavy clouds and cold wind.

I forgot unfortunately two important things: a) the pin of my cash card (no cash from the cash machine – and I can not get me another pin because I use mobile TAN process with my bank, which is not working – guess what – when your phone does not log in a network). b) prices for food. I had a small piece of lasagna with a small coffee and a yummi cannelbollen – 20€. Pfffff. Same in the evening: a mini tortilla with a mineral water: another 20 €. But I was at least practising my Spanish with the owner of the Spanish restaurant I’ve been eating in.

For the rest of the days I will set myself on a special Norway diet: use hotel breakfast and marathon catering for everything you need. No extra food to be bought. Ok, except some tasty firklover chocolate for emergency cases.

I did not forget the high prices for alcohol here and brought a nice bottle of Williams Christ spirit … I am curious how many days (or nights) it will last. At least I can invite my friends to a truly German taste, ahhh! I guess it is not what the organizers meant when stating we shall bring something nice and from our country for the Sunday brunch, so we will kill the bottle before.

Tango wise the pre party yesterday was very cosy and nice. I like the location with a painted wooden floor and very high ceiling. I was so happy to meet some of my international friends – some of them I did not see for 6 months or more. So the evening went away very fast with some chatting and some melting, wonderful, flowing tandas with some of my beloved leader friends. And I even discovered new cherries on the floor.

I am looking forward to the marathon tonight – I am resting the whole day. It’s raining very much and I feel too lazy to walk around in the rain. Sorry Oslo, I will discover you when you show me your sunny side! I muse instead about the use of the built-in-wardrobe-fireplace and wait for Santa, as my friend Vlad suggested. Or I wait for the Easter bunny. Or I will take a nap. zzzzz zzzzz zzzzz
